Geography fieldwork #forthelasttime

By K. Parr, Lead Teacher of Geography

A few weeks ago, the Geography department took the Year 10 students out to Bowness on Windermere, to collect data for their controlled assessments. Field trips are great to take the opportunity of helping the students to become more independent and to let them collect it all themselves.

The students went to three sites in Bowness and at each one:
  • Wrote down the landuse functions
  • Conducted an environmental survey
  • Asked tourists and residents to answer a questionnaire
  • Created field sketches
  • Created a method of their choice

This is a fieldtrip that has run for the past 10 years, however due to the change in specification it is the last time that it will run. Students collected their data but were also able to explore Bowness and enjoy some of its delights, for example the ice cream and in some cases the Chinese restaurants!

The students once again made Hodgson proud, and they gained independent skills a well as collected valuable data, which will help them to complete their controlled assessment to the best of their abilities.

We will be sad to see the back of Bowness, however look forward to what the future holds for our new GCSE fieldwork.

Well done Year 10!
