Last One Standing

With the new GCSE specification promoting a shift from rote-learnt to spontaneous dialogues as part of the speaking assessment, it is vital for our Year 11 students to master their French pronunciation and develop confidence in this skill. The game 'Last One Standing' seeks to address these issues and can be used with any topic, as this is a whole-class activity.

Each student must be given a model sentence related to the topic of your choice - in this case, we were revising the topic of environment. The class had one minute to work out the English translation of their sentence before standing up. Armed with my copy of each of the sentences, I read out the English translation and the student in question had to read their original sentence aloud. The aim of the game is to be the last student standing. This activity developed pronunciation, translation and reading skills and could be used in a variety of subjects with questions/answers or key terms/definitions- a fun way to revise as a class!
