Silent Debate

Silent debate - shhh!

We have been using the Silent Debate technique in PSHE to get every student involved and prevent louder  from dominating class discussions. This is also brilliant for 'accidental' literacy as the amount of reading and writing done by the students is huge!

Write a quote/controversial statement/question in the middle of the big paper.
  1. WITHOUT SPEAKING students can ask questions/agree/disagree/link ideas with the proviso that all opinions must be justified.
  2. Time limit the group then swap the big papers around so each group gets to do each (different) sheet.
  3. Use the silent debate sheets as wall display to remind the students of the range of opinions on the subject or to support the next task.
