Snakes and Ladders

Although I have had a special huge snakes and ladders board made, you can use this technique for any game, small or large!

You can use all sorts of board games for different teaching and learning techniques. In this instance I implemented it for our Year 11 cohort. Students were asked to make extensive and precise revision notes about the three gods of the Trimurti. Students were then asked to make questions about the gods that could be answered using their revision notes. For the higher ability students, we asked for more challenging ‘extra bonus questions’ which carried additional rewards. Students were given a week to revise and memorise their notes. Students then played the game in teams (which were assigned and ensured mixed ability). Students answered the questions in turn individually, when the student got stuck on a question they were able to ask for help from their team mates. This method was effective in ensuring differentiation.

Using different games for revision techniques or plenaries have worked well, you often see us enjoying a good game of Jenga, Snakes and Ladders or playing with plasticine or Lego Mega blocks!! So have a good root in your cupboards and find a game which you can use today!!!
