Reducing Workload - EBI

by Katherine Parr,
Lead Teacher of Humanities

How long do you spend marking work when writing WWW and EBI's? Do you find yourself writing the same comments down over and over? Why not scan through the work beforehand and write down some of the most common WWW's and EBI's next to you and create a code for each one. When it comes to marking, you need to simply write the appropriate code in the students book- thus cutting down marking time.
In the next lesson, you put up the codes and the targets or praise on the board and the students must copy them out and here is where they improve on their work. This method has the exact same effect as writing it yourself, however the students will take time to read it if they are to copy it from the board. This is something used in RE, PSHE and MFL here at Hodgson and will soon be trialled in other departments across the school.
