Post-It Challenge

The Post-It Challenge is a simple idea, but one that can provide instant challenge and support for a wide range of students.

As they enter the classroom, give each student a post-it note with a keyword. They must use their word at some point in the lesson - whether it be verbally or as part of a piece of written work. To make this more challenging, ask students to swap their keywords at different points throughout the lesson.
We have used this to particular effect for varying vocabulary; instead of student always saying that an activity or film is 'interessant', they are exposed to 20 different positive adjectives to increase their vocabulary.
