A simple starter which can be tweaked to support and challenge each class ready for the new content in the lesson.
The class is split into two teams. Pupils can volunteer the English translation to gain points for their team. Or to stretch GAT pupils, ask them to translate into German! The older the word on the colour coded grid below, the more points the team gets. Heute gets the team 1 point, whereas vor langer Zeit will give you 4. The grid can be changed to suit any topic which pupils are learning.
I've found that students really push themselves to go for the higher point answers and win for their team. A high energy start to the lesson!
