Hodgson Chess Competition

This half term we have been running a week long chess tournament for Years 7, 8 and 9. This has been a great way to promote both the Maths Club and Chess Club to a wider audience within the school. Hodgson has a fantastic track record with extra-curricular sporting activities; adding a chess tournament allows students who may be less physically gifted a platform to challenge themselves and express their cognitive gifts.

The chess tournament allows students to appreciate measures of intelligence such as fluid reasoning, memory and cognitive processing speed. Students are also having to cope with pressured situations in the competitive setting which links to key skills needed for academic success.
