Loop Cards in Maths

by J. Barton,
Head of Maths

Within the Maths Department lots of us use loop cards frequently in lessons. Simplistically, loops cards are cards which contain questions and answers, the answer to a card is recorded on a different card, and the question on that card has an answer again on a different card, eventually all cards fit together to create a loop.
For example;

Benefits of using loop cards in lessons;
  •       Engaging for students
  •          (Students don’t always notice that they are working through 16 questions… different to a worksheet/ list of questions)
  •          Work doesn’t need to be written in books, it’s a nice opportunity to use whiteboards
  •          If you decide to laminate the resources they will last years
  •          Existing resources do exist (certainly for Maths)
  •          Students can work backwards from the answer
  •          Can be completed individually, in pairs or in teams –   Competitive element!
  •          Great for checking skills – testing knowledge
  •          Can be used across all subjects
