An alternative to revision

By K. Parr, teacher of Geography.

The Year 9 students in Geography have started a new specification this year and have concentrated on GCSE style learning and revision. As an alternate to the traditional styles of revision today we played top trumps!

After two lessons of learning about ways to protect the coastline, the students were given a pack of cards. Using all the facts and figures the students had to play top trumps- use the cards with the highest scores to win! The biggest problem in Geography is usually learning and remembering the prices, costs and advantages and disadvantages of coastline protection methods. Without knowing it the students were doing some hard core revision.
This task worked effectively and the students were all actively engaged, this is something the Geography department will definitely be doing again! Why not try it in yours?

Focus in on the cards!
