By L. Carroll, teacher of English
Over the final two weeks of half term four (14th – 24th
March), Hodgson’s year sevens set about reading as much as humanly
possible in order to raise money for charity. Hodgson’s English teachers
launched the sponsorship challenge to their classes, each hoping that
it would be their class who would triumph in raising the most money. The
competitive nature of this fundraiser didn’t stop there though. Year
seven progress tutors and the heads of houses rallied their students to
ensure that it was their progress group and house coming out on top when
the Readathon deadline arrived.
The response from the year seven cohort was nothing short of outstanding!
In total, the year group raised £1446.84 – an unbelievable amount for a single year group.
Of the houses, it
was Dragon house who came out on top, with both Dragon forms, Miss
Wilkes’ 7H and Mrs King’s 7D coming first and second respectively. Miss
Boyle’s 7m1 class just edged a marginal victory over Mr Carroll’s 7a1
class to claim the top spot for the English classes.
It was fantastic to
see so many students wanting to get involved in this year’s Readathon
and donating whatever they could to raise money for some amazing
charities.
Here’s hoping that next year Hodgson will raise an equally astounding amount through the power of reading!
