Instagram, raising the profile of Design Technology

By E. Smith, Teacher of Design Technology

For those of you who might not already know, Instagram is a social media network, which allows its users to post and share their pictures.

In Design & Technology, Miss Wilkinson and I use Instagram as a way of showcasing students' work and achievements.  Students can then double tap on the photo to show they “like” the image.

Since setting up the Instagram account I have discovered that the students are not always aware that their work has been photographed and uploaded. So, over the Summer, I had stickers made, using the Instagram logo. I will use these stickers by sticking them into the student’s books when I have photographed a piece of work. This way, they will know to look out for their work being showcased.

Not only do the students love seeing their work on show, but it is also raising the profile of Design & Technology amongst the students' body.

You can also link your Instagram to your Twitter feed, so that when you post a photo on Instagram, you can also share it on Twitter.
