Five to Thrive!

By K. Clare, Lead Teacher of Mathematics

The students in Mathematics are very fortunate to have so many good resources to support them with their progress. As a result, the problem is choosing which ones to use! Quite often you hear students say they don’t know how to revise or what to use, so, for our year 11 students, we have come up with the key five to thrive! This is a catchy way for the students to remember all the different ways in which they can improve their maths knowledge and understanding in school and, even more importantly, at home. It is encouraging students to take ownership of their own independent study ahead of next summer’s new 9-1 GCSE examinations. We have posters up in the classrooms and, at the recent parents evening, we gave parents a top tips sheet (below) which had the five to thrive  information along with other advice, revision sessions and website log in details.

Since this evening, the revision sessions have seen pleasing numbers and students have definitely stepped up their preparation. They will hopefully see this effort pay off with improved scores in the next mocks, which will give confidence to build upon by continuing to use their five to thrive!
