By A. Holmes, Teacher of Textiles Art
The main aim of the visit was to give the students the opportunity to experience further education in a creative subject. The college workshops are very exciting places to work in. We were given a tour of the department and some of the courses were explained to the students so that if they are interested in pursuing an Art / Textiles career they would gain knowledge of what is available at local colleges.
Year 9 GCSE Textiles Art students were invited to Blackpool & The Fylde's School of Creative Arts & Digital Industries to partake in a Lino printing workshop. This took place on Thursday 15th of December and ,as a treat for excellent work and effort throughout the term, the students were allowed to work on a Christmas theme (we even had Christmas songs playing!).
Ms Smithson demonstrated how to use the lino cutting tools to produce their print design in Lino and set the group to work. The students worked incredible hard and each produced a printing block which they then tested using a very old printing press! Once they were happy with their design they went ahead and printed using rollers to transfer fabric ink onto fabric .

We hope to organise another workshop in the future as Mrs Smithson was so impressed with the group.
Ms Holmes will also be organising a visit to Blackpool Sixth Form in the near future.
