Whilst sharing the office with my amazing colleague, I
mentioned that when students struggled with learning new skills, it sometimes
took a while to get them all going and she suggested ‘Student Genius Lanyards’.
If there are some students who have grasped the understanding of a new technique or skill more quickly than
others, then they get to wear the ‘student genius lanyards’. This means they are
able to go around the room and support any students who are struggling.
This empowers them and results in them taking on more responsibility in the lesson and further embedding their understanding of the skill or technique. At the same time, they are supporting students who are struggling.
I have been using this with my KS3 ICT classes and it has been working wonderfully!
