Independent Learning with Schoology

by Katherine Parr,
Lead Teacher of Humanities
Schoology is an online resource base that provides free resources to teachers across the country throughout most subjects. This year the Humanities faculty are trialling using schoology as a base for the student’s independent learning. The teacher can create separate groups which the students can access by using a unique access code.

How humanities are using this...
  • All students will have access to every lesson delivered across the three year course, therefore reducing stress for any lesson missed.
  • A full revision course is available, which includes; practice questions, self tests and Youtube videos.
  • Parents will be introduced to this resource on 'Steps To Success' Evening. We will encourage students to use it as a tool to improve their general knowledge and application skills.
  • We are currently trialling it for homework tasks.
This is something that the students can download onto an app on tablets or phones at home, so it is easy to access both at home and in school.

As you can see on the images, teachers can fully check who has logged onto Schoology and this is a great way of keeping tabs on who has done what. We feel that if the students can get used to using this, it can be their constant base for work missed/revision and independent work in the lead up to their real GCSE exams.
