At the
beginning of lessons, I sometimes conduct a short quiz of up to ten
translations into English; a mixture of revision and new content.
Halfway
through the lesson, I then conduct the same quiz as a mini-plenary and
challenge all students to exceed their score/speed in completing the quiz.
At
the end of the lesson, I then change the quiz and ask students to write their
answers in the target language.
This has proven to be effective with GCSE
classes and motivated lower-ability students.
