I focused a lesson on all the key
multiplication methods where students were encouraged to try different methods and then decide which method they
found the easiest to use.
For example, one student worked through each method to
determine this before sticking with the grid method.
I found that this to be a good activity to use again in the
future (completing an example with several different methods) to ensure that:
a) Pupils can understand that there are different methods to
be used in different circumstances, which is applicable in several topics (such
as HCF and LCM).
b) Pupils have a better chance of understanding the
information and being able to practise as they have different ways of being
able to access it.
