Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as "learning through reflection on doing".
This week Year 11 have been learning about the four paths of Yoga in Hinduism. Students studied the theory of the four paths of yoga and considered how it impacts the religion. They then needed to reflect on its importance within Hinduism.
I wanted to try and deepen this cognitive knowledge by allowing the students to experience the theory in real life.
What better way than to try and understand this significance of ashtanga yoga than to actually participate in this form of yoga themselves? This allowed them to feel how a Hindu would feel practising this form of yoga.
As well as providing development of knowledge and linking theory to kinaesthetic memory, this was also a lovely calming end to a lesson.
