From Lancashire to Mesopotamia - Away From the Western Front

by Alyson Wenham,
Teacher of History

Working with the Lancashire Infantry Museum (LIM) in Preston, Lancashire County Council’s Heritage Learning Team have launched a  project with only five secondary schools in the whole of Lancashire and Hodgson have been selected as one of the schools.  The project, for Year 8 pupils,  will develop historical enquiry skills, uncovering stories of local soldiers who went to Mesopotamia.  We are concentrating on the 6th Battalion Loyal Lancashire Regiment.

After the research period, there will be a body of work which the children will be able to draw upon to develop a creative representation.  These will then be shared digitally and made available as a teaching resource for other schools across the UK studying the First World War.

8M1 have started their research and have created these folders to hold their work.
