Throughout
this year, Humanities took out a loan to borrow three sets of Lancashire
learning libraries loan boxes.
Currently the Year 7s have just started the topic of Africa, and the library boxes arrived just in time. In the boxes were-
- African masks
- African figures
- African clothes
As an introduction to the topic of Africa, I created a carousel lesson in which
students had the opportunity to go and visit five tables that incorporated the three
themes above, location and some visual photos of life in Africa.
The students (Year 7 lower ability group), absolutely loved this. They came to the lesson and
responded with their best behaviour and engagement.
After this task I then asked the students - what do they know about Africa, and
by using these boxes we were able to have some visual representation of the
continent before we visited the topic.
There are lots of different topics that you can borrow from Lancashire
libraries and I would highly recommend them for your students.
