1 Pen, 1 Die

by Katie Thwaites
Lead Teacher of MFL

Working with a partner and armed with one pen and one die, students can be given a series of words, phrases or sentences to translate. The first person to roll a ‘6’ gets to use the pen first. They must try to translate as many sections as possible. Meanwhile, their partner must continue to roll the dice until they role a ‘6’; allowing them to take the pen and begin their translations. The game continues until one person manages to complete all of the translations before their partner. This activity could be adapted to other subjects by using a question/answer format, for example.
Warning: students become very competitive and enthusiastic during this game! Answers should be provided to ensure precision and clarity in answers.
