9 Marker Model Analysis in Geography

by K. Connal,
Assistant Head of Humanities

Since the introduction of the new specification at GCSE, we have found that some students struggle with the big 9 mark questions.
As part of our evaluation of KS4 after the first two years of exams, we decided to implement this skill earlier in the course and with more explicit understanding of the assessment criteria.

Students analysed a model answer by colour coding coverage of the Assessment Objectives. They then annotated the model answer to explain exactly how it covered the criteria.
Students found it helpful and were certainly more confident in their understanding of the question.
