PE - Hodgson Experience

by Liam Webb,
Teacher of P.E.

Year 10 students have been offered a incredible opportunity to develop their leadership, communication and social skills via the 'Sports Leadership Level 2 Qualification' through 'Sports Leaders UK'.
We have had a huge turn out of students wanting to use their core Physical Education lesson to complete this course. It has been incredible to see the students develop and engage with each other in a way they perhaps are not used to.
The students have had a brilliant chance to lead sessions on new exciting sports such as 'KinBall' while also maintaining their commitment to traditional sports.
Miss Sanderson and Mr Webb can't wait to see the Year 10 students develop over this next half term and get them involved in leading some aspects of the extra-curricular program.

The Extra Curricular time table has continued its reputation to offer something for everyone. Every lunchtime we have had huge student turnouts to badminton in the sports hall with Mr Egan and student led activities such as table tennis and dodge ball in the gym. After school we have endeavoured to offer opportunities for all every night. We have seen record numbers of students attend a variety of activities such as boys/girls football, mixed badminton, GCSE climbing, girls netball and rugby, just to name a few! Sticking to our tradition we have also been performing brilliantly against other schools in competitive matches winning football matches, netball competitions and rugby matches.

The OCR Sport Studies class have also had a fantastic day out in the Lake District ghyll scrambling; the weather was cold, windy and wet, but this didn't stop the staff and students having a fantastic day out.

Outside of Hodgson, Mr Webb has been selected to work as a team member for  'Teach Meet Physical Education Icons' . This is a national CPD event where PE teachers from all over the UK will join together to discuss, analyse and share best practice with each other. Mr Webb alongside three other PE teachers are busy organising this incredible event which is set to be held in Ely in June 2020.
